ERA-NET New Indigo
Program:
7th Framework Programme
Description:
The new bi-regional networking project New INDIGO is based on the assumption that India has become a prominent country in Asia and beyond, not only from the economic or political, but also from the scientific point of view. Relationships with India in Research and Development (R&D) have not been harmonized so far at a European level. While there is a wide variety of cooperation programmes between India and single European countries, there is little multilateral Science and Technology (S&T) cooperation between the EU and India.
One essential step towards filling these gaps and towards the elaboration of a common European strategic position and effective cooperation with India in the domain of scientific research is, firstly, the identification of a set of target bilateral programmes of cooperation, which has been done in the project AOUDA. The next step is, now, the development of suitable tools and actions to coordinate the efforts of the European countries towards India.
The aim of New INDIGO is to ultimately provide the most relevant framework to allow the scientific community and institutions of India to access the European Research Area, and the Euro-Indian S&T cooperation to fully benefit from the new networking tools which have been set up, notably the Framework Programme 7. This will be done by the launch of bi-regional calls for scientific research proposals.
New INDIGO's objectives can be defined as follows:
- To identify the right format, funding scheme and targets for a Networking Pilot Program (NPP) to be launched at the ERA scale, taking advantage of existing bilateral programmes and enhancing existing networks or clusters as well as arousing new ones.
- To launch and follow-up this NPP in order to insure good practice and functioning. The programme will be subsequently evaluated for future developments.
- To facilitate the networking and to stimulate the Indian participation to EU Framework Programmes by creating, developing and maintaining a database of partners, institutions, individuals as well as programmes, in Europe and in India, in relation with S&T cooperation.
New INDIGO targets these goals with three main actions, namely the identification of research hotspots in Europe and India, the call for research projects and their evaluation, paving the way to the structuration of high quality collaborative research, and the experience sharing with other geographic ERA-NETs.
