Reports from Canalys analyst Natalie Spitz say that Asus leads the netbook manufacturers pact in terms of market share in Europe. Acer has a commanding 32.4% market share followed by Asus with 19.6%. Area coverage include – Europe, Middle East and EMEA countries. Acer’s netbook shipment to Europe is growing at 4.2% from Q3 2008 to Q3 2009.
Isn’t it interesting that Asus who was supposed to have carved the netbook market niche is now playing second fiddle to Acer who was rather a little late in entering the market? What does it say? Does it mean that Acer netbooks are better than the Eee PCs? Or cheaper perhaps?
Other stats from other netbook companies include – Samsung with 12%, HP with 11.6%, Toshiba with 4.2% and Dell with only 3.5%.
The report also said that there were around 3.7m netbooks shipped in the EMEA regional along for Q3. This is 68.9% more than what was ship a year ago. This only goes to show that netbooks are still getting their share of the PC market industry.

You mean “Europeans love Acer…” not Asus
:)
Thanks for the correction!
Living in Sweden, I had to by my first Eee PC 701 from England, and it took 9-12 months before EeePC were available in Sweden.
I think Acer beat Asus to the Swedish market, I could buy Aspire One in Sweden before EeePC. And by being on the market first, Acer could get distribution thru bigger/better channels.
Understanding that Sweden is not a major market for anyone, I believe that Acer were much faster into more markets than Asus, growing sales more rapidly.
There is no wonder that Acer is more established than Asus on the german market.
Facts:
1) Before Netbook rise, Acer and Asus were marked as “cheap” notebook manufacturers. Also, there were more issues with them than with typical established notebooks from Sony, Toshiba, IBM or even Dell.
2) Acer managed to throw a lot of Netbooks through their cooperation with Medion, which is main electronics supplier for Aldi. Aldi is german Tesco (for englishmen) or Walmart (for americans). Cheap but still delivering descent stuff. Also, they were first who sold PCs of pallets in germany and whenever there was announcement for cheap PC, there were many people waiting in queues to get it.
3) There is no real Asus PC here in germany, while Acer was selling their systems since ages here.

Acer are and feel cheaper, to this market cheaper sells better at short time, in the long term ASUS will keep the customers better, ive had both an ASUS eepc 701 and the ACER 10 inch, and the quality is far better for ASUS, the little eeepc has better plastics, matte display, no fingerprints, feels sturdy, shockproof and has better support (backup dvd)
The ACER collects fingerprints, has loose cheap plastics, the
Walk into John Lewis and you’ll see lots of Acers, no Eee PCs. Availability -> sales…
