News:
February 23rd, 2010 -- Traffic Statistic servers will be receiving a performance upgrade within the next 24 hours during which stats gathering will be paused and traffic access will not be available.
January 11th, 2010 -- As result of a misconfigured internal upgrade, 1/4th of our members experienced broken real-time stats for part of Jan 9th, all of Jan 10th, and part of Jan 11th. We have resolved this issue and have installed safeguards to prevent recurrence.
December 16th, 2009 -- We have completed a major upgrade to our backend system designed to alleviate the random time-out errors within the login/admin area. Please report any issues in the login/admin area to support@fanfiction.com.
November 19th, 2009 -- Over the next two weeks we will be rolling out a siginificant new addition to FanFiction.Net and perform some critical upgrades to our backend system.
Side notes: We have modified the Justin section to include display of crossover stories. In addition, we have limited the range of filterable categories to the top 100 sorted by archive size. Please note that by default the Just In will display the last 50 stories from all available (unfiltered) categories.
October 27th, 2009 -- Storymarks, our fanfiction bookmarking feature, has returned. We disabled the feature more than a week ago due to inconsistent operation reported by many users. We have since redesigned the feature internally to make it compatible with more web browsers. As always, please report any issues to support@fanfiction.com.
October 22nd, 2009 -- We are actively restructuring the site and are moving some pages/links around. If you encounter a bad link, please email support@fanfiction.com with the link in question and the page it appeared in.
October 16th 2009 -- We have further expanded site performance for our international users.
In addition to East Asia, Australia/New Zealand, and Europe, users in the following regions will now enjoy faster site experience.
- Brazil, Argentina, and other South America countries.
- India, Malaysia, and other South East Asia countries.
September 26th, 2009 -- We have improve site performance for our loyal users in the following geographic regions:
- Europe: UK, France, Germany, etc.
- Asia 1: Australia/New Zealand
- Asia 2: Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China, Thailand.
This is the first phase of our plan to make sure FanFiction.Net is not only accessible but also as fast as local sites in these regions. If you currently experience problems with page formatting, please alert us at support@fanfiction.com.
September 2nd, 2009 -- More site reorganization:
- Tamora Pierce has been renamed to "Song of the Lioness". Please note we have created separate categories for all of Tamora Pierces' works and advice authors to migrate their pieces to the new and unique sections.
- To reduce confusion, access to old Jane Austen and Tamora Pierce links will now guide users to the newly established sections.

August 12th, 2009 -- Please note we have resolved an issue where reviews from the past 24 hours were backlogged which resulted in the reviews not appearing in a timely fashion.
August 4th, 2009 -- Minor updates:
- Fixed an issue with DocX where some members could not establish connections.
- Fixed a blank page problem when accessing old archive pages within large categories.
June 26, 2009 -- Minor update: Storymarks, when applicable, are now accessible at the top of every page.
June 22, 2009 -- Minor updates:
- Incorrect dates in Storymarks have been fixed.
- We are trying to isolate a Firefox browser issue where accessing Storymarks from multiple tabs/windows can sometimes cause storymarks to disappear.
June 16, 2009 -- Minor improvements:
- Chapter title information is now included in review alerts.
- Fixed a problem where you can lose storymarks data if you have multiple browser windows open and add/remove storymarks within each window.
June 5, 2009 -- New Feature Announcement: We have just launched the "Storymarks" feature. Storymarks are bookmarks for stories/chapters and is one of the most often requested feature. With storymarks, any user can save their current spot and return to continue their reading at a later time. Members do not need to login to access this feature.
To access the storymark feature, use the "View" and "Add" links at the top right of story pages. Clicking view will allow you to access your current storymarks. Please note there is currently a limit of 20 storymarks and we will remove the oldest one if you attempt to add one over the limit.
May 8, 2009 -- We have improved the PM (Private Messaging) system in response to member feedbacks.
- When replying to a review, the review is displayed below the composition form. A link to the review is automatically prepended to the PM message. A link pointing back to the reviews page is now shown after posting reply.
- When replying to a previous PM, the 5 most recent messages/replies are displayed below the composition form.
- Fixed a problem where you could not reply to a PM when you have removed it from the inbox but there is a record of it in the outbox.
May 5, 2009 -- Members now have the option to remove messages from their Private Messaging (PM) Inbox. Please note the old review reply feature has been replaced by the new messaging system.
If you are a member and is currently experiencing issues with receiving email alerts, please login and visit the Alerts section for tips. We have put up configuration guides for Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, and GMail users to ensure alert emails are not incorrectly filtered by your email provider.
May 3, 2009 -- Readers can now toggle a "light" or a "dark" theme for the story pages. The dark theme can offer enhanced eye comfort when reading for an extended period of time.
May 2, 2009 -- In addition to story font size, style, and alignment, readers now have a new customizable option: line height/spacing. Readers can increase/decrease the spacing between sentences to satisfy every personal preference to enhance reading comfort.
April 29, 2009 -- We have just launched a redesigned Private Messaging (PM) system. In addition to email delivery, messages between site members are also accessible through an "Inbox" in the login area. Please note the new PM system is threaded meaning replies/conversations to the same subject is grouped together. In order to reduce inbox clutter, we highly recommend all users to utilize the threaded feature and to always use the reply link to respond to PMs.
April 17, 2009 -- Document Manager has been upgraded to support faster and larger user uploads. Plain text (.txt) file support has been improved. Please note we do not recommend submitting stories as html (.html) files.
Search feature has been upgraded for speed and will continue to receive updates over the next few days as we introduce crossover support.
Misc: In an ongoing erffort to reduce page clutter, we are removing the display of updated date tag in story listings if a story's published and last updated date are the same.
April 1, 2009 -- In response to member feedback, readers now have the option to browse all crossovers to one category without having to select both sections.
We have fixed a problem within crossover archives where filtering by properties such as length did not work as intended.
