The featured content star

Featured content represents the best that Wikipedia has to offer. These are the articles, pictures, and other contributions that showcase the polished result of the collaborative efforts that drive Wikipedia. All featured content undergoes a thorough review process to ensure that it meets the highest standards and can serve as an example of our end goals. A small bronze star (The featured content star) in the top right corner of a page indicates that the content is featured. This page gives links to all of Wikipedia's featured content and showcases one randomly selected example of each type of content. You can view another random content selection.

Scafell Pike and Scafell in the Lake District National Park

The national parks of England and Wales are areas of relatively undeveloped and scenic landscape that are designated under the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949. Despite the name, national parks in Britain are quite different from those in the United States and many other countries, where national parks are owned and managed by the government as a protected community resource, and permanent human communities are not a part of the landscape. In Britain, designation as a national park can include substantial settlements and land uses which are often integral parts of the landscape, and land within a British national park remains largely in private ownership. There are currently 12 national parks in England and Wales, the newest and smallest being the New Forest, established on March 1, 2005. The South Downs are also in the process of being designated as a national park. Each park is operated by its own National Park Authority.

A common PC today usually consists of the following components (shown here): Display, motherboard, CPU (microprocessor), primary storage (RAM), expansion cards, power supply, optical disc drive, secondary storage (HD), keyboard, and mouse.

Featured list: List of countries

This list of countries, arranged alphabetically, gives an overview of countries of the world. It includes territories that are independent states (both those that are internationally recognized and generally unrecognized), inhabited dependent territories, and areas of special sovereignty.

Such inclusion criteria means the list does not treat the word "country" as synonymous with "sovereign state," as one may often find in colloquial usage. Note, that in certain circumstances and in certain languages the term country is understood in the most restrictive sense, thus including only the 193 entities mentioned under the first item below.

The list covers all areas under the jurisdiction of the listed countries, namely territory, territorial waters (including internal waters and contiguous zones), exclusive economic zone, continental shelf, and airspace.
