LONDON (Dow Jones)--European stocks were modestly higher in early trade Friday, with investors sweeping back into the market to buy on weakness following Thursday's declines across global equities.

"We had a good start to the week, then a mid-week attack, and now, we are back up again. There's a feeling that once we have had a decent pullback, there are enough buyers out there ready to pick up stocks on weakness," said Ian Williams, strategist at Altium Securities.
