Patients should not be pawns - IPA
[Posted: Fri 20/11/2009 by Joanne McCarthy]
Patients must not be used as pawns in the threatened industrial action next Tuesday, the Irish Patients Association (IPA) has said.
The IPA has called for all parties in the action to immediately call off these protests in the interests of patient safety.
“Patients cannot defer their illness on Tuesday November 24 – Patients must not be used as pawns by any party in an industrial dispute,” the IPA said.
“While we understand the deep concerns of health sector workers regarding their pay and conditions of employment, we also understand the need for necessary fiscal interventions by government to reestablish a vibrant economy to pay for the services we expect,” it stressed.
