ABOUT THE PARK

On the west side of Beacon Hill, Dr. Jose Rizal Park has an amazing view of south Downtown and Elliot Bay. The park has a dog off-leash area at its north end, and picnic tables, restrooms, and a small play area for children to the south.Acreage: 9.6

HISTORY

The site of Dr. Jose Rizal Park is a favorite gathering and picnic spot for members of the Filipino community. The meadow slope site was transferred to the parks Department in 1971, and was named after Dr. Jose Rizal three years later. Rizal was a Filipino patriot who, during his short life, made lasting contributions to medicine, political and social reform, engineering and a large number of other disciplines. He was executed as a result of being accused of complicity in the Filipino insurrection of 1896. The park was formally dedicated in 1979.

• Take the DEARBORN ST./JAMES ST./I-90 EAST/MADISON ST. exit towards SPOKANE, exit (#164A)
• Take the DEARBORN ST. ramp
• Turn LEFT onto S DEARBORN ST/ WA-167
• Turn RIGHT onto 8TH AVE S
• Turn RIGHT onto S KING ST.
• Turn RIGHT onto 12TH AVE
• Turn RIGHT onto S CHARLES ST.
• S CHARLES ST becomes 12TH AVE S.

From I-5 Southbound:

• Take the exit- exit number 165A- toward JAMES ST..
• Stay straight to go onto 6TH AVE.
• Turn LEFT onto YESLER WAY.
• Turn RIGHT onto BOREN AVE S.
• Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto 12TH AVE S.
• Turn RIGHT onto S CHARLES ST.
• S CHARLES ST becomes 12TH AVE S.

Lot adjacent to shelter area with 2 handicapped spots.
