One of the most trying situations for a goalkeeper found Fabian Rosano in a relaxed mood.
Seconds before he stood in goal for the penalty-kick session against Jamaica Internaxionale on Saturday, Rosano smiled and chatted with sideline photographers. Not usually a common way to approach penalty kicks.
But Rosano's demeanor turned serious once he faced Jamaica's shooters, and his performance proved crucial in Argentina Rosario's second-round Copa Latina victory.
Rosano forced a missed shot and stopped another as Argentina defeated Jamaica 4-1 in penalty kicks after regulation ended in a 1-1 tie.
``I tried not to let the pressure get to me,'' Rosano said. ``My teammates had confidence in me and I knew they would come through with their shots.''
Argentina's Marcelo Cabrera and Jamaica's Duane James scored in the first penalty-kick round. In the next round, Daniel Gallardo converted for Argentina, but Rosano forced Jamaica's Orlando Lawrence to miss high above the crossbar.
Nelson Gustillo scored for Argentina in the third round, and Rosano dove to his right and stopped Triston Thompson's attempt for a two-goal advantage.
Uriel Razcovsky clinched Argentina's victory when he converted on his attempt in the fourth round.
``I concentrated to the maximum,'' Rosano said. ``During the game, I noticed things about some of their shooters that helped me in the penalty kicks.''
Rosano also was a busier goalkeeper than Jamaica's Kurt Bennett. Jamaica repeatedly pressured the Argentina goal area in the second half. Rosano stopped shots from Jomo Turner in the 60th and 69th minutes, and during stoppage time, he clutched James' free kick from the left wing before it landed in an area occupied by Jamaica attackers.
