Rey Misterio, Sr., is a Mexican professional wrestler , trainer and actor, as well as the uncle of well-known luchador Rey Mysterio, Jr.[2] His name directly translates to "King Mystery" in English. He was one of the top stars and promoters in Mexico throughout the 1970s and 1980s.[3]

Mysterio first begin training as a boxer, but after his body got bigger, he took a lot of bumps and couldn't punch as good. The trainers told him that he could punch hard, so they told Mysterio about wrestling and his brother would take him to train for wrestling and lucha libre. On the sixth of January, 1976, Mysterio finally debut as a wrestler on a show day call "Day of the Kings", Día de los Reyes.

In 1987, Mysterio started opening a gym with Negro Casas and Super Astro. His first class included future international stars like Konnan, Psicosis, Halloween, Damian 666 and his nephew Rey Mysterio.

Mysterio is also known to have trained wrestlers like Aussie Ozbone, Cassandro, Eiji Ezaki, Extassis, Extreme Tiger, Fobia, Metalika, Misterioso, Pequeno Damian 666, Ruby Gardenia, Warlock, Venum Black, and X-Torm. He appeared at WCW Starrcade 1990 where he teamed with Konnan to face Chris Adams and Norman Smiley.

Mysterio is the uncle of wrestler Rey Mysterio and father of El Hijo de Rey Misterio.[3]

He is featured in the horror film El Mascarado Massacre (or Wrestlemaniac).[4]
