Bangalore, Mar 17: After the union Home minister P Chidambaram said that the 'amateurish attack' on ISRO does not seem to be a terror attack, state home minister VS Acharya has stated that the shootout was a result of a 'misunderstanding'.

"It appears to be result of misunderstanding and there is no need to give the incident importance," state home minister V S Acharya said after briefing Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa on the incident and the progress of the probe.

The shootout took place at the sensitive Deep Space Network (DSN) facility of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Tuesday, Mar 16 morning. The incident, which took place at the state's vital installation, created panic and fear of terrorism as the city is on high alert amid reports of possible terror strike in the country.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel guarding the facility reportedly exchanged fire with two unidentified persons who were moving aroung suspiciosly.

According to the CISF sentry, Jadhav, one of the two men opened fire when they were questioned. He retaliated and reportedly fired eight rounds but was not able to get the men, who escaped into the darkness.

The search is still on for the empty shell of the bullet fired by the unidentified man. Six empty shells of the bullets fired by the CISF guard have been recovered and the police are still searching for the other two.

VS Acharya also informed that the state government may order a probe by the elite CoD (Corps of Detectives).

Karnataka has sent a detailed report on the incident to the union home ministry.
