West NIle mosquitoes found in Tinley Park
A recent sampling of mosquitoes in south suburban Tinley Park has tested positive for the West Nile virus.
Village manager Scott Niehaus said no one has been infected, but mosquitoes have tested positive for the virus. Village officials learned about the infected sample earlier this week, he said.
The Cook County Health Department took the sample during routine testing in the area of 62nd Avenue and 177th Street.
West Nile is spread through a mosquito bite. Most infected people have no symptoms and never get sick, according to the health department. Other people get sick in three to 15 days after a bite. Symptoms include fever, headache and body ache.
People older than 50 and those with chronic diseases like heart disease or cancer might be more at risk, the health department said.
