Motorcycle Ambulance in The Netherlands

RAVU Motorcycle Ambulance
In The Netherlands, in the city of Utrecht to be exact, they are currently using motorcycles for medical first aid.

The idea, though not new, is that a motorcycle not only can reach areas where their help is required faster, but a motorcycle could also get to places a normal ambulance could not reach due to its size and weight.

For example, if you have a person who has had a hart attack on the quai of a railway station (probably because he heard that the French railroads were on strike again), a traditional ambulance, after wrestling through traffic jams, would need to stop in front of the railway station, and then the medical staff would need to run out to the train to help the person. That can take a long time.

With motorcycle ambulances, first of all the motorcycle would reach the station far faster than a traditional ambulance, and secondly, would not need to stop there, but could continue onwards through the station (more slowly I'd presume) right up to the person in difficulties. In medical situations, time is of the essence !! Or imagine this scenario in a shopping center, or football stadium, or pedestrian areas, or..... etc.

RAVU Motorcycle Ambulance
The Dutch ambulance organization of Utrecht (RAVU) are using 6 Yamaha FJR1300s. The motorcycle has been adapted to hold a lot of medical equipment, but more importantly, the equipment has been not only been placed strategically, but also while keeping in mind the weight distribution allowing the motorcycle to keep a good balance.
