Moss motto draws squeal of reproval

LONDON: Eating disorder experts have criticised British supermodel Kate Moss after she cited as her motto a phrase used on websites that encourages girls to avoid eating.

In an interview with the fashion website WWD, Moss said one of her mottos was "nothing tastes as good as skinny feels".

This slogan is posted on websites encouraging girls not to eat.

But according to Moss's modelling agency, the comment has been misrepresented.

"This was part of a longer answer Kate gave during a wider-ranging interview, which has unfortunately been taken out of context and completely misrepresented," a statement said.

"For the record, Kate does not support this as a lifestyle choice."

According to a BBC report, Moss said in an interview that was one motto that "you try and

remember, but it never works".

Mary George, of a British eating-disorder charity called Beat, said Moss's words were "very unfortunate".

"Comments like this make it even more difficult for young people struggling with an eating disorder," she said.

Model Katie Green, who is campaigning to stop the use of ultra-thin "size-zero" models, is reported to have said the comments were "shocking and irresponsible".

"If you read any of the pro-anorexia websites, they go crazy for quotes like these," Green said.

According to Britain's The Sun, one website that uses the motto is called Starving for Control.

"Kate Moss should really have thought before she spoke, like most of us do before giving interviews," Green said.

"Kate is a mother herself and how would parents with children suffering from eating disorders feel reading something like this?"

Moss, 35, is famous for her skinny look, which helped spur a trend for super-thin models in the 1990s.
