Northland school principals are calling for immediate changes to the region's education system which they say is in crisis.
The Tai Tokerau Principals Association, representing more than 150 Northland schools wants more support for students with special education needs.
It says many Northland children with disabilities or behaviour, learning and communication problems are missing out due to funding on a per capita basis.
The principals want a teacher aide in every low-decile classroom in Northland and for special education resources to be funded according to need rather than population.
