GO PENS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another TSCS "Pep Rally"

IT'S "PEP RALLY" TIME!!! Our Boys still need us - we're not out of the woods yet... It's definitely a great feeling knowing that we dodged the nearly-insurmountable odds of a 3-0 deficit, but we won't be able to breathe again until we even things up and make this a BRAND NEW SERIES! So to all of our Friends that are lucky enough to have scored a seat at the Mellon on Saturday: CHEER TWICE AS LOUD FOR US!!! Think of all of us at home watching on TV and give it all you have. The Pens obviously needed our support, so I expect all 17,000+ of you to give them enough love at tomorrow's game to cover Game 4 AND to carry them through for a win at Game 5!!!!!!

LET'S GO PENS!!!!!!!!!!!

Now here are some more things to that will PUMP YOU UP for tomorrow. First, a quick video that you need to watch:

At the risk of sounding like a complete loon, I have decided to use the same format as the last "Pep Rally," so you'll understand at the end of the post why I wanted you to watch that... :P

Next up, Friend of The Show Lexie101 sent me a link to a fight song from Pittsburgh's B94 radio station. Click here to listen to "Bringin' Stanley Back" by Kobe.

David Staples of The Cult of Hockey gives us the lowdown on Game 3.

Friends Alison from Akron, Ohio, and Bobby T. of IFHSA™ fame sent in a few pictures for us. Akron Alison sent in a picture of the signs she keeps out on her porch - it may not seem like a big deal to some, but supporting Pittsburgh sports is VERY RISKY BUSINESS in and all around Cleveland. I worked in Mentor (a small town just outside Cleveland) for several months in 1998, so I've seen first hand how intense they can be to Steel City supporters! (← In my experience, it was all in good fun, of course!) Also note: Her brother sketched the Pens logo freehanded. :)

Bobby sent in a photoshop he made:

For anyone who couldn't grab the Mellon Arena goal horn ringtone, you can download the mp3 here: Penguins Goal Horn. Now that's a sound we want to hear more of, am I right?

Finally today, I've got TWO treats for you. The first one came about with some help from Friends Michelle B. and Clare L. It is a ringtone of Mike Lange's original "Slap Me Silly, Sidney!" goal call - snagged from the video above. (Haha, I told you I'd eventually explain that!)

And this treat is from Bobby. It's another Mike Lange "Slap Me Silly, Sidney!" goal call - but this one comes from Wednesday's Game 3 after Sid scored for the second time.

What's even better is that Bobby also provided the iPhone ringtone for us! Click here to get it.

All right - let's go over today's "Pep Rally" now:
  1. Pep talk - Check.
  2. YouTube video - Check.
  3. Silly Penguins-related song - Check.
  4. Random Penguins article link - Check.
  5. TSCS Friend photos - Check.
  6. Pens-related mp3 link - Check.
  7. New Pens ringtone - Double Check.
It's a best-of-7 series and, despite what this guy thinks, it ain't over 'TIL IT'S EFFING OVER.

Many, MANY thanks to everyone who contributed to today's post, and to ThePensblog.com staff for sharing the Wings Parade link.

GO PENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dontcha just hate it when you're the first one at the party and you have to stand around all awkward-like and you wish you got the whole "fashionably late thing"? Just me? Ok.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

I have such a good feeling about tomorrow. I think the boys are fired up now and they KNOW they can beat Detroit (and Detroit knows it too!) The Mellon is going to be out of control...I get goosebumps just thinking about it!

Lock it down, boys!!! BELIEVE!!!!!

I am VERY confident for Saturday's game! With the fans behind them and their new found confidence I know that the Pens can pull out another victory!

I was at Wednesday's game - which was totally amazing - and I have to say the crowd was off the hook. We were so insane at the beginning and also went crazy during Orpik's amazing shift. The crowd was also really energized when they played clips of Herb Brooks saying inspiring things to the Miracle team from the movie (like "We can beat these guys!"). I don't know if they'd done that before but it definitley got the crowd to go crazy!

Go Pens!!!!

anon, orpik's one-man-wrecking-machine shift was INSANE. you are SO lucky you were there for that!! :)

and i can tell you that when i went to game 1 against the sens, there were no herb brooks quotes played for us. BUT this is also the first time we've trailed in a series since the post season began, so that makes sense.

i gotta tell ya, that was simply AMAZING to watch game 3 on TV because for almost the entire length of the game, the announcers had to basically scream into their mics so we could hear them because you guys were so damn loud!!! A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!!! :) :) :)

Snoop...ya i was so happy and lucky to be able to go the game!

And the Miracle quotes definitley worked! Whenever Herb Brooks said "We can beat these guys" the crowd went insane.

That is really awesome about the announcers - they probably both had no voices the next day from screaming!

One more day until another bomb drops on the Dead Wings!! It's going to be one hell of a game!

Snoop, thanks for the Slap Me Silly, Sidney tones! When I heard Mike Lang say it on Wednesday, I prayed that you would turn it into a ringtone and low and behold you did! Yipppeee!! :)

Let's go boys, let's go! Kick some ass and let tie this series! You can do it!! GO PENS!! WOOOOHOOO!!

Yay that I can get the ringtone on my stupid iPhone! I wish they didn't make it such a different process, but I really appreciate the extra time so I can have it too.

No reason not to believe in the boys. They'll do it again.

I was at Game 1 vs. New York and it was totally electric in the Mellon, I can't even imagine what it was like Wednesday and what it will be like tomorrow...

And for that...I'm traveling over two hours to watch the game from the lawn...It'll be worth it I'm sure.

Great ringtones!! Very exciting!! The problem is I have some on my phone and when my phone rings I get so excited about the Pens it takes me awhile to get focused on what I was doing before...haha. Oh well.

Tomorrow seems so far away...

By the way, if any of you Pittsburgh-ites (Pittsburghonians?) are thinking "dang, I have nothing to do tonight" you could always head out to the Post-Gazette Pavilion and see my beloved Dave Matthews Band! I love Dave. Now HE is my type!

Man, Sid's first career goal is eerily similar to his second goal in game three.
-They both came in the second.
-They both came on a power play.
-He scored on the left side of the net both times (well that's his stick side but whatever).
-They were scored off of a rebound.
-After he scored both goals, he went into the far boards.
-They both gave the Pen's a two goal lead.
-Mike Lange said the famous words "And you can slap me silly Sidney!" both times.
Take a look....

okay, back to ACTUAL Pens-related musings...

has anyone else been a little creeped out by Sid's unwavering confidence in the face of adversity? I'm still not not sure whether to admire or fear his "we're not going to change anything, we just need to execute" attitude. I mean, sure he pulled it off for Game 3 (man DID he EVER pull it off!) but we need to see that same attitude and more importantly, confidence, from the WHOLE team, not just Sid.

Blogger snoopyjode said...

it's a total cliche, but it really is true that if you hear something enough, you'll believe it. i think that sid is (as michelle pointed out) leading by example and saying those words over and over and over again so his teammates believe it, too. someone (maybe you, mer?) said earlier this week: he's wearing that C for a reason!

and i gotta tell ya, i'd only be creeped out if he was like, "man! we just can't figure these freakin' guys out!" O_o

I'd be creeped out if he ever uttered the words, "I'm just going to give up."

On another note, not sure if anyone else read it but the wings' Holmstrom might not be playing in tomorrow's game due to an injury after colliding with Hal Gill (that's what happens when you mess with our Pens haha). But according to the article he's still sore and might have to make a game time decision. ** this is UNBELIEVABLY long**

I am SO sorry to everyone not following this thread - and to Snoop for being so darn verbose on your comments page today, but I think I need to explain what I meant a bit more explicitly because clearly my choice of words was inadequate.

snoop & michelle - On Wednesday night, I DID say that Sid's wearing the C for a reason, and his unwavering confidence is exactly why I said it. I agree, Sid IS leading by example, and if you believe something hard enough it CAN come true (iwillmarryryanwhitney
iwillmarryryanwhitney - okay, maybe I can't believe ALL things into existence :P)

“Creeped" was the wrong word. I’m just not sure there’s a word to sum up impressed-absolutely-floored-
bewildered-nervous-freaked-out-with-
positive-connotations; I definitely didn't mean it in a negative way.

Needing something to aspire to, people are often quick to create heroes of ordinary people. In doing so, they often ignore the flaws and exaggerate the strengths of their exalted figure, forgetting that we are all human in the end. When those heroes then prove themselves to be merely human, we are left somewhat broken-hearted, not because our hero failed, but because our hero proved to be fallible, just like us.

There have only been brief moments where I was able to muster the indomitability Sid has shown this week. It's blind confidence, it's singular focus, and it's unbelievably rare. But Sidney Crosby is a rare bird (pun COMPLETELY unintended, but totally acknowledged). He is living up to the expectations people have created, and it now appears that we may have actually under-estimated how high his expectations for himself are, and how determined he is to excel. I supposed I am simultaneously relieved and unnerved that every hint of Sid's strength has been just that, a hint.

The more he shows this strength, however, the higher the expectations rise. And the higher expectations rise, the further they have to fall if it all comes crashing down.

It’s about faith (in God, true love, the Pens' ability to win the Stanley Cup; take your pick): some simply have faith because they do and they always will, some start out with faith but lose it after a few too many disappointments, and then there are some who want to have faith but want proof before they can – which actually completely contradicts the idea of faith, but we’ll ignore that because they Want to have faith, and that’s worth something.

I would consider myself someone who falls into the first category, but that does not mean that I don't sometimes wonder if I'm an idealistic nut-job. I have faith that Sid can lead the Pens to victory, but I feel a bit crazy for having that faith.

There is a feeling stirring in the cockles of my heart that we are about to see Sid prove that all of the hype that has surrounded him for the past fourteen years has been deserved, that we (the media, the fans, the hockey world in general) have not simply built him up because WE needed a hero. It’s unbelievably selfish, but I want Sid to be as strong as he seems, I want him to keep the surprises coming, I want him to keep rising above the adversity. I want him to be that guy that kids can look up to not just as a hockey player, but as a role model of what a leader truly is. I want him to inspire (more) people. I want to know that I’m not crazy for thinking that people that incredible can exist, even if they are equally as rare.

I want him to be (almost) larger than life.

I want him to be a real-life hero.

And that scares the living daylights out of me, because if he actually IS that person it will prove that people that strong exist, and I may never be able to settle for anything less from myself ever again.

Blogger mer said...

again, i know that was long, a picture is worth 1000 words, apparently a feeling can be worth 679.

michelle=stunned.

I have nothing to add to that. Mer is definitely good with words and I hope what you say is true, for sure.

Some people think it's silly to compare hockey stars to heroes. But, while he might not be directly saving a life by being a firefighter, or an EMT, or what have you, he's inspiring young people to strive for something better.

And so maybe that keeps a kid from doing drugs, or some other kid from hating himself and being depressed, because he found someone to look up to, and that makes it so incredibly heroic.

Alright, you people made me all gushy. Quit that.

From the Post-Gazette:

Just like at Mellon Arena

Turns out Mellon Arena isn't the only venue where fans can watch games in the Cup final on oversized video screens.

The arena in Sidney Crosby's hometown of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, is showing the games on large projection screens, and officials there have asked the Penguins for a batch of the white towels distributed to fans here before every game.

Admission to the arena is by donation at the door, with proceeds benefiting the local youth hockey association.

because i tried that and it didn't send anything back.
the ringtone is hilarious though. i love that expression!

alison, that's supposed to be how it works!

you can do it another way too: i have an account, so i just click the "send to phone" button and it takes me to the site. i just give my password, and it sends the ringtone to my phone. you can sign up for an account for free.

hope this helps!
