right on monday the school are starting a new dress

code wher its whit t-shirts under your shirt or nothing and ive only got one white t-shirt and ive been wearing whhat ever t-**** ive wanted for the last 5 years its to do with the new rector who wants to introduce blazers and its not just a minoraty as the blazers would cost £70 each and we would need 2 and thats a months wages for me as my parents dont pay for my clothes anymore. we would be happy to wear white tshirts as we can admit multi colourd tshirts look a bit on the scabby side so do we A) protest full stop and not let him change our uniform our B) move a little but the problem with moving a little is that hell get higher ground and think he can do anything like he is now. the girls at our school have only been aloud to wear trousers for the last 7 years due to a mass walk out where every one sat on the playing feilds untill the old rector gave way and let them were trousers but the problem is im a senior now and it would have to be us organising it which could land us in HUGE trouble and getting throwen out which is the last thing we want

Wear the white t-shirts. They look good anyhow.

You don’t need two blazers. One is fine.

It may seem like a huge bind but actually, a smart uniform goes a long way to getting you accepted at university, college and in future employment.

If your struggling to pay for it, then discuss this with your parents (it is, after all, an unexpected additional cost to your budget). If they don’t have the funds then they need to contact the head confidentially. Schools do have systems in place to help with such matters in times of hardship.

Don’t protest. By all means express your feelings in a polite conversation, but if you make things difficult at school all you end up doing is damaging your own position. I suggest asking if you could have a meeting with the Head to express your concerns? Find a rep from each class. DON’T do the mass protest thing. It could easily lead to suspension or even expulsion which stays on your record and makes things VERY tough in future.

7 years is a long time. What happened back then is in the past. Don’t let it fester and become the present again.

The skirts v. trousers issue is over now. That’s not the issue any more.

The issue for you is the cost of the new uniform isn’t it? Not just that you don’t happen to like it?

Listening is one thing.. agreeing is another. If you put reasonable arguments forward, you can expect a reasonable response.

Bear in mind the reasons they want to do this. It is to make you look smarter and to give you the edge for your future interviews. You’d be amazed how many local employers will notice which schools are producing tidily dressed future employees! My guess is that the school isn’t just doing this for fun!
