Ohio Senator Acknowledges Any Health Reform Bill Will Lead to Public Option
by Kyle OlsonWhen President Obama hit the campaign trail in an attempt to sway Dennis Kucinich (yes, he’s reaching so low in the barrel, he’s trying to convince Dennis Kucinich), the administration began its full-court press on its allies.

As has been said here and elsewhere a zillion times: the American people don’t want what the Democrats are offering. But an acknowledgement by Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown on the Rachel Maddow Show gives an even better reason to oppose the legislation: it’s simply a wedge in the door to a “public option.” From a Monday appearance:
MADDOW: Should we not expect the public option anytime soon?
BROWN: No. Just—Rachel, you know history. I‘ve seen your show enough to know that you understand sort of how progressive—the progressive movements worked. When we passed, what, Social Security was passed in the ‘30s. It wasn‘t all that great at the time. When Medicare was passed, it was good, but not great.
… That‘s what happens here. This—you can bet that a lot of us are going to introduce a public option bill.
As soon the president signs this, we‘ll start working towards it. It may take a year. It may take five years. There are a lot of things we‘re going to do to continue to improve this system.
We obviously don‘t give up on it. We don‘t get everything we want. But we work—we look how this bill works, we look how this new law works, and we continue to try to improve it.
So Sen. Brown makes it clear: progressives in Congress don’t need to get everything now. This is simply the starter home, as Sen. Tom Harkin said. Improvements and additions can be added later.
This admission should steel the resolve of those who understand the government’s massive intervention into 1/6 of the economy will be bad and will be a major marker in the road to a fundamental transformation of America.
It has come to the point now that any type of compromise is not what progressive Democrats want, for this bill is not the final product. It’s simply a foot in the door to a public option and a full-blown government take-over of health care.

I would have to say the 64K question what did Kucinich get for his vote….
Love it – now they're admitting to being progressives., the new dirty word.
Public Option will be here after the last insurance company folds.
Stop these bastards.
DTOM!
http://RightWingStuff.com
How about this as a weapon? Organized boycotts at businesses within the Congressman's district.
Tea Party officials can organize boycotts of Target stores to get the Minnesota guy to vote no, for example.
With hundreds of millions of irate Americans, Tea Party organizers can get the word out and hit them where they live. Literally.
Health Care?
Bend over, spread yourn cheeks, and say Ahhhhhhh!
No compromise. KILL the BILL!
Government ratchet effect at its finest. Once they get their toes in the door its only a matter of time before they swing it wide open. RIP America, it was nice knowing you.
kucinich is a dangerous psycho, sen s. brown is working on the public option as soon as obamasoros signs the h/c deemer. I 'm working on some other options that will suprise sen. shithead brown.
We will know in a few months.
SO… as we slide ever closer to the edge of the cliff, does anyone have a clue where the brakes are?
??? I don't want to think about why you're saying AHHHH while your bent over spreading cheeks…???
Don't be absurd. This is being floated out there for the Left supporters. A public option would be better than this fascist monstrosity where insurance companies (thanks to their lobbying) only force you to buy their product. USELESS middlemen that add nothing to the system – just skim money. No reason it would change from that.
Representative John Hall
US House of Representatives
March 17, 2010
Dear Mr. Hall,
Well it comes to you. One man, one vote, the nation’s future on the line. I bet when you were doing drugs and singing “Your the One” for the one thousandth time you never thought you would end up in having to make this choice. Before you do please give me one moment of your time.
In the old days, prior to government intervention in the medical establishment, the “wealthy” paid higher prices at the doctors office to support the needy. My father would tell the story like this. A patient would drive up to a doctors office in a Cadillac and the doctor would treat him, and the doctor would give him a higher bill than he would give to other patients, sometimes a much higher bill. The doctor then would use that money to treat people in the community that needed assistance. As time went on the government put it’s nose into this practice and took the place of the doctors and the hospitals who engaged in this. The government entitlement programs began to divorce a doctors capability to obtain the funds to carry out charity work, and thus while the cost was leveled out the creation of a third party to pay and to dole out charity destroyed the capacity to self regulate or to engage in ones own community in a positive and very efficient manner.
Fast forward to today. I pay a monthly premium for my medical insurance. Even if I do not use the resources for decades, other than checkups and the like, I gain nothing from behaving wisely. Why? Because as much as the insurance company wants to create products that keep prices low, so they can cover more people and make a higher profit for the company, the government is telling these companies who to sell to, how much coverage is required, even the deductibles are dictated. In this manufactured environment of unlimited capacity and fixed supply, price must rise inexorably to meet the consumption of the goods and services offered, in this case medicine.
So what is the answer Mr. Hall? First you ought to vote no on this proposed legislation that would place the government in further control of what is left of the private healthcare industry. Second, you should get back to work creating a piece of legislation that unlocks the free markets power to drive down costs, and create supply and innovation that it has to a higher degree in this country than all others combined. Finally, please contemplate the concept of privacy. I know in this day and age people seem willing to abandon their anonymity and the freedom that that begets to ones soul, but they are misguided. I cannot conceive as anything more personal to ones life then the medical care they have or will receive – I do not want my care or the care of my family to become the purview of some bureaucrat in Washington D.C. I want my families care to remain between us and our doctors and nurses.
In closing, I am firmly aware, as you should be, that you are part of an institution whose record is not good. In the hundred or so odd Congress’s what does the Country have to show for your efforts? Trillions in debt and deficits. Blind monkeys who randomly hit the “yea” or “nay” button could have done a better job. But it is now up to you. Will you vote yes and commit this nation to bankruptcy, or will you vote no and then get right back to work crafting a solution to this mess?
Respectfully,
A prius as government?
I know….. but it will and s scarey that they are USING these tatics…..
I hope Ohio can come up with enough signatures to recall Dennis the bonehead.
If this bill passes, I will not conform with it! It is against the law, the constitution and my bill of rights that I was born with back in 1972! I will not be forced into Obamacare, I would rather DIE!
If you heard kucinich's statement, he said "I've spoken to president obama, to speaker pelosi, to my wife, and my close friends about this." I couldn't help notice he made no mention of having talked this over with his CONSTITUENTS.
Ohhhh another bad mental picture…..Thanks…..
"…It’s simply a foot in the door to a public option and a full-blown government take-over of health care…."
I know this can't be restated often enough but I think everyone with an I.Q. above 60 knows this. Those hovering at or below 60 just need to hear "I'll pay your bills" and they're all for it, reality be damned. The liberty and God hating regressive elites are hell bent on enslavement for all. We must defeat them now or be relegated from stumbling blocks to mere road bumps.
Of course there will be a "public option." The only other option will be the Black Market Option.
"RIP America, it was nice knowing you."
Not quite yet. Remember Honduras.

Its time for "out of the box" thinking in dealing with all politicians, bias fringe media and special interest groups who are only working for their own interest. Unconventional actions is what is going to be needed to affect real change through http://www.savingtherepublic.com
those are the people that will help him WIN or LOSE come the fall…. thats great!!!
I'm with you. The words I use are:
I WILL NOT COMPLY!
And that covers more than just "health care."
I fear the breaks may fail and we won't fare well if the future is nothing but Reps and Dems fighting over which pedal to push. We need to put the damned thing in reverse. A full speed Reverse 180!
Sounds like a novel idea John…and one that I thought they understood.
Remember the old Bill Cosby quip…"I brought you into this world, and I can take you out!"?
We just need to keep the rising movement going and make sure that the Constituents take them out!!
And we don't even get a complimentary reach-around? Nancy Pelosi sucks!
I would like to know one thing –After that ride on AF One is Kucinich now a member of the "Mile High Club"?
The ones your talking about are the zombies I have been writing about, they are the ones in the shadows stay silent that come out to vote. These are the ones who put BHO and the scum incumbents into office and have no clue what they are up to, to this day. These people are the biggest threat to the Republic b/c they want someone to foot the bill for them.
Another question- After Kuciich took the ride in AF One ,are the american people now members of the Mile High Club?
Try this one on for size: When the insurance companies go broke, and they will, then a bailout will be needed.
Guess who will do that?? The U.S. taxpayers, of course, only the government will then be in a "preferred"
position to take over the insurance companies. Bingo!! You will now have a single-payer plan.!
A single-payer plan is what the radicals have wanted all along. It probably won't take up to five years.
In fact, since the insurance companies have been "doing business" with the Administration behind closed
doors, the "plan" is, no doubt, already in the works. Perhaps that is what O told K, since the latter says
that's what he wants. I'm sure, he also got something more "tangible", too.
Personally, I am not one to go off half cocked.I have given this matter a great deal of thought over the past week, and even the past several months. This is going to be life changing. Further and beyond that, it is going to be psyche changing.
I have made some decisions.
I will not comply.
I will not submit.
Further, I will probably cease to recognize anyone in elected authority.
We are on a slippery slope.
You mean the ride on Air Farse One wasn't enough??
I thought that was bend over, spread your cheeks, and grab your ankles….
Just read the reconcilliation bill, page 116..lookey there… the public option!__http://budget.house.gov/doc-library/FY2010/03.15….
thats a SCAREY though…… with WHOM may i ask???
[...] Read the rest. [...]
if the public really wanted this shouldn't we have already seen and heard at least 1mil., if not 40mil., people calling for it by now? they have 40mil potentially tragic stories that they could use for props and the two they chose are getting care. wtf? they wanted to underscore their bs with the usual dose of incompetence? if they had no other options i might better understand their approach, but we have more than enough resources to responsibly make this a reality. this admin. has only succeeded in driving a wedge btwn. the people of this nation and our allies.
"So Sen. Brown makes it clear: progressives in Congress don’t need to get everything now."
We have got to stop these people
If we don't we are DOOMED
Um… We knew this.
Guys, the above poster is correct. Copied from the Reconcillation bill.
"creates a new Health Insurance Exchange, with a public health insurance option alongside private plans."
http://budget.house.gov/doc-library/FY2010/03.15….
They are lying and they are tyrants? What a shock, wake up America.
The promise of a public option
When President Obama hit the campaign trail in an attempt to sway Dennis Kucinich (yes, he’s reaching so low in the barrel, he’s trying to convince Dennis Kucinich), the administration began its full-court press
on its alliesof its lies. With that small correction out of the way, without blushing from shame and embarrassment, I would like any member of Congress who is going to vote for this bill to rationalize how social security and medicare are now "better" than when they were first implemented.
I know CL. I take this very seriously, and it will be life changing. What bothers me the most is that I am one of the most law abiding people I know. I even comply with speed limits. It hurts me that because of the actions of this government, I might actually be considered a "criminal" for the rest of my life. But I realize that I must draw a line in the sand. And that is what I am doing, because I will not comply.
Good luck I hope it works
AF1 napkins?
I say we recall his sorry ass…
Been listinin' to talk radio all mornin'. Callers are mostly plant-life. From where do they come?
Are there special numbers on the walls at homeless shelters & posted on the concrete under
overpasses & on boxcars for them to get in without being screened? What a freak show, would
be funny if it weren't so serious. PRAY FOR GRIDLOCK !!!
Ohio could; his district? not a chance…
I think you'd be surprised how many of us are with you on this…
I trust everyone is simply answering question #1 on the census form and sending it back? Maybe if they see how many of us are going to give them the finger, they *might* wake up…
Advice to all. You will not have a choice. The insurance companies will be owned by the government, just like Bank of America and GM is now. Listen, their is a time and a place for everything under the sun, now is the time to write, make calls and raise your voice, and get involved in campaigns in your local districts. Trust me – it is far easier to vote than to kill. Remember they are for fascism with a smile so killing them will not be justified in the general populations psyche. We outnumber them 2/3 to 1/3. We cannot lose this coming fight on Nov. 2, 2010.
“In brief, a part of these states now feel, and all of them are sure of feeling, as far the vengeance of administration can inflict them, the complicated calamities of fire, sword, and famine. We are reduced to the alternative of choosing an unconditional submission to the tyranny of irritated ministers or resistance by force. The latter is our choice. We have counted the cost of this contest, and find nothing so dreadful as voluntary slavery.”
“Honor, justice, and humanity forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us. We cannot endure the infamy and guilt of resigning succeeding generations to that wretchedness which inevitably awaits them, if we basely entail hereditary bondage upon them.”
- from Thomas Jefferson: Declaration of Taking Arms
Then again, state nullification is the preferable route
This is what ACORN has been doing for decades to drive their progressive agenda.
There can be no compromise here. If the public was informed and in the loop, social security and medicare would have never passed. Taxpayers are no longer asleep at the wheel , the massive growth in Federal Government has to be not only slowed, but put in reverse gear and our foot to the floor.
We never had a Caddy, our small town doctor was more apt to base our bill on age of our vehicle.
Had his roll-top desk in the corner of the exam room, right next to double set of windows, with
sheer curtains, which he would roll toward in his oak office chair till he could peer out, even going
so far as asking is that y'alls new car out there? The answer was always no, no we're still driv-
ing our old De Soto, my mama would say. Always being proud when we got a new one, every 4
years, I confronted my mother as we walked out of his office one day, shame, shame you told a
lie, I said. That's when I learned the purpose of 'little white lies', at about age 4 or 5.
Sexual favors with Rham Emanuel.
You forgot to tell us that the insurance companies are all run by the Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeews…….
Obama: hey Dennis you want to go to Ohio on AF 1 and we can discuss your "NO" vote.
Kucinich: No way Barrack, you see I am stone wall when it comes to my principles.
Obama: just get on the plane you Howdy Dowdy looking little sh!t, I got something to show you.
Kucinich: you know how sore I am about you having taken this Public Option out of the bill…. but let's fly.
Obama: look at this Dennis, ……now tell me this doesn't look like a Public Option to you?.
Kucinich: WOW,….!….Joe the Plumber won't even be able to get an aspirin without your approval………
You can count on my vote there Barrack.
I'm glad to hear it PL. I'd hate to think I was the only one taking this stand, but even if I was, I would still do it.
[...] » Ohio Senator Acknowledges Any Health Reform Bill Will Lead to Public Option – Big Gove… [...]
I have to get out of Ohio. Virginia seems to still value the Constitution … maybe I'll look for a job there.
I am so sick of politicians being lackeys for the unions, I can puke. Brown is the biggest carpet-bagging hack in the Senate — and that's saying something.
A wedge in the door. The camel's nose under the tent. It's all the same and it's not news. As Rush says, this is the ballgame. Let's hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.
Hasselfool, the people that can't afford to buy insurance or don't have it are guilty of piss poor planning in their life and they are in the uber minority. It has NOTHING to do with the evil corporations that you are envious of. Commandeering 20% of the nations wealth should not be done for the sake of these minorities. Let them all get together and have some sort of group plan that will cover them and their irresponsible life style, but I for one, as a productive member of society, am tired of footing the bill for everyone else that doesn't pull their weight.
Sic Semper Tyrannis
Kucinich is probably the only one in Washington who can not be bought!!!
Oh please. We don't need this guy on record to know this. The only thing transparent around here are these clowns.
No Duh !! That is one of the reasons the Tea Party was formed and why 73% of WE THE PEOPLE are against Obamacare.
What service does an insurance company offer??? Why is having the option to purchase a public option a bad thing??? Who ever said that you could not continue to buy your, overpriced very restrictive private insurance???
I love the way the Progressives think they will be in power forever. They can't introduce or pass anything if their butts are sent home to stay. You can be sure they will be back. We had better be ready for the long haul and I mean many generations. Teach your children well.
yeah right. do you really think his vote on the health care boondoggle wasn't bought?
Apply the same logic to:
Houses
Clothing
Movies
etc.
and you'll find you are arguing for state control of everything.
Nancy Pelosi sucks!
Now that's an image I wish had never been introduced into my mind.
Article 1 Section 7.
All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with amendments as on other Bills.
Every bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a law, be presented to the President of the United States; if he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the objections at large on their journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the bill, it shall be sent, together with the objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a law. But in all such cases the votes of both Houses shall be determined by yeas and nays, and the names of the persons voting for and against the bill shall be entered on the journal of each House respectively. If any bill shall not be returned by the President within ten days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the same shall be a law, in like manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their adjournment prevent its return, in which case it shall not be a law.
Every order, resolution, or vote to which the concurrence of the Senate and House of Representatives may be necessary (except on a question of adjournment) shall be presented to the President of the United States; and before the same shall take effect, shall be approved by him, or being disapproved by him, shall be repassed by two thirds of the Senate and House of Representatives, according to the rules and limitations prescribed in the case of a bill.
You really don't know Krucinich do you? Do some research, than get back to me with an example. Denis Kucinich, and Bernie Sanders, are probably the only two in either the Congress or Senate, that this can be said about!
Let's listen in…"But Mr. President, if I go back on my commitment and vote for this, I will never get elected again. " "Dennis, let me be clear, if you vote for this, you won't have to worry about being re-elected." "Oh, I understand sir, let me tell my family ,er, discuss it with my family." He was floating down those stairs out of the plane.
If I do not have health insurance, and you work for a company that offers you health insurance, is it fair that I pay for your insurance in the price of the product you sell or make? Why do you believe it is OK for me to subsidize you, and I receive no subsidy at all? Your company has decided that they will disperse the cost of health insurance to the public who buys its product.
A public option will not effect your insurance in any way, if you want to keep your private insurance you are welcome to do so.
Do you not believe that the government has some responsibility to protect its citizens?
Should we do away with Medicare? Has Medicare led to state control of the elderly? How will a public option lead to state control of anything?
