This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, create protected (salted), semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  2. Add a level 3 header (i.e. ==== {{lx|Example}} ====, where x stands for the namespace) at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header. Please make sure you have spelled the name of the article properly; a common error stems from mistaken requests for the protection of redirects, particularly capitalised ones.
  3. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header.
  4. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.
  5. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

[edit] Current requests for protection

Place requests for either semi-protection, full protection, move protection, or create protection at the TOP of this section. Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

[edit] Project Timesheet (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

full protection dispute, Doesn't seem notable. Prezbo (talk) 20:24, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Joker (comics) (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi protection. User who has had multiple socks blocked already, now using multiple IPs in the 69.79.46.x range to attempt inserting material against consensus (see Talk:Joker (comics), as well as Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Krlzh/Archive). 67.183.232.99 (talk) 19:28, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Pictogram voting comment.svg Note: The IP/socking is also affecting Joe Chill with the same problem. Given that the result of the SP was a 1 month block to Harleytarantina (talk · contribs) and indefinete blocks to Paulita1292 (talk · contribs) and Krlzh (talk · contribs) this appears to also be a case of block evasion form at least 3 IPs in the range - 195, 231, and 144 - over that last 3 or 4 days. I'm not sure if semi protecting the articles will be effective, or if a short IP-only range block would be more effective. - J Greb (talk) 19:59, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try to ask the protecting admin first before making a request here.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

[edit] PhoneNews.com (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Requesting unprotect for PhoneNews.com. This article was protected by two users, one of whom is Pastor Theo, a sock puppet of a user who was banned for stalking users in public.

The article was flagged by several items in a quorum between these two moderators, overriding the disputes of users.

Finally, an infinite protect on this article is unwarranted for disputed material that appears to be advertising or in dispute. As I understand it, the users in question should be either warned if that was concluded. Toycars (talk) 06:04, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Pictogram voting delete.svg Not unprotected – Please create a sourced version of this article in a subpage or your userspace. When this is done, please make the request again, or ask any administrator to move the page for you. The Pastor Theo issue doesn't make every action performed by that user null and void, nor was s/he the only admin who deleted the page. Nor should RFPP be used as a place to air your dirty laundry, it's simply a place to request un/protection.
Create a reliably sourced and notable version of the article first, I'll be happy to unprotect it and move your version into place. However, Wikipedia is not to be used as advertising. Finally, I'd be happy to restore the article text into your user space so you may work on it until the article is ready to meet Wikipedia's standards; if you are interested, please discuss this on my talk page, not there. tedder (talk) 06:08, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
I was not attempting to "air any laundry", simply noting the suggestion that Pastor Theo's actions be reviewed, which I read when pulling up his/her user page. I was not sure if each admin's actions was separate and required review, hence the separate request. I have created a proposed draft from scratch on my user page, and cited it according to what I read from WP:WEB. I believe the latest version addresses WP:RS and WP:N sufficiently to lift the protect. If you're looking for more than what's there, please let me know. Toycars (talk) 06:23, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Current requests for edits to a protected page

Shortcut:
WP:RFED
When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}}, {{Editsemiprotected}} or {{Request edit}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here, though most of these should simply wait for unprotection.

[edit] Montcalm Secondary School (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protection. Edits to the page from the same series of anonymous but similar IPs are a mix of constructive edits and vandalism. The IPs are likely different computers inside the school. Suggest edits to the page be limited to registered users, at least temporarily. Users who want to build the article can create accounts. Ivanvector (talk) 19:02, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] J. Z. Knight (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Due to some recent conflicts between (mainly) me and other users (two of which are unregistered -they may be the same person, but I have no further information as to whether they are or not- and Mindgladiator), I propose this page be semi-protected so that unregistered users cannot edit it.

The problem with the unregistered user's activities is that I have been unable to have an orderly and follow-through discussion with them, and they have refused to create an account despite efforts to convince them that it would help tremendously in having efficient discussions and communication between us.

I feel I may -in some way- be biased against various edits on this article, due to my recent edit war with Mindgladiator on the article (see Edit Warring page for more on that), but on the other hand I feel it would be to the best of everyone's interests if the article were to be semi-protected, so that at least only registered users can edit it and discussions regarding disputed edits can be followed in a more clear and orderly manner. • jujimufu (talk) 16:48, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Ongoing vandalism by a person of variable IP address who seems to be obsessed with the name "Baig" and keeps inserting an unreferenced and untidy list of people called Baig into the article with no indication of their context or relevance to the article. [edit] The Filipino Channel (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Long term semi-protection For four straight days now, as well as for several months, this article has been a target of a vandal user based in Indonesia using several IP addresses, putting misinformation to make it older that it actually is and making it seem like a local channel (it is a cable channel aired outside of the Philippines), all without sources. This has been relisted because hours after the last request for this article was declined, the same vandal (again using a different IP address) vandalized it for the third time, as well as a fourth time. - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 09:00, 22 November 2009 (UTC)
