RANZCOG - the College

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) is dedicated to maintaining the highest possible standards in obstetrics and gynaecology in Australia and New Zealand.

Training

The primary role of the RANZCOG is to train and accredit doctors throughout Australia and New Zealand in the specialities of obstetrics and gynaecology so that they are capable - professionally and psychologically - of providing the highest quality health care for women More

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

All practising obstetricians and gynaecologists in Australia and New Zealand participate in the RANZCOG’s innovative continuing professional development ( CPD ) program, incorporating the practice review and clinical risk management (PR&CRM ) program.

A Broader Role

In addition, the RANZCOG

• Supports research into women’s health through the
  Research Foundation and its scholarship program
• Advocates for women’s healthcare by forging productive relationships with individuals, the community, professional and government organisations both locally and
  internationally
• Develops policy for consultants and practitioners for example, the College Statements
• Develops learning material, for example the FLP
  (Flexible Learning Program) and innovative professional development programs for medical specialists:
  • the Support Scheme for Rural Specialists
  • the Fetal Surveillance Education program
• Actively engages in communication to members and the public through such channels as the peer-reviewed scientific journal The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ANZJOG) the College magazine O&G and the monthly e-newsletter College ConneXion

Categories of Membership

Membership of the College is set out in section 3 of the RANZCOG Constitution. The classes of Membership outlined therein are:

In late 2007 the College Council endorsed two additional classes of Membership:

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Trainees who have been selected for the Integrated Training Program (ITP) and have obtained an accredited first-year training position may be eligible to apply to have some previous training recognised toward the specialist training program – subject to the approval of the RANZCOG RPL Assessment Subcommittee. Note: Only trainees who fit one of the four categories specificed are eligible for RPL. For the RPL policy, click on the document below.

RPL applications must be submitted as soon as possible after the trainee has accepted a place in the ITP and before commencement of training. Deadline for submission of RPL applications for new trainees starting the ITP in 2010 (or December 2009 in New Zealand): no later than 5 pm Thursday 15 October 2010. Applications will not be accepted after this date.
