In a nutshell
- The Search Settings Notifier sets Google as your default search engine and prevents your search settings from being changed without your consent. An icon in your system tray blinks if your browser notices an attempt to change your search engine. You can click the icon to get more details and/or allow the change.
- This feature is only currently available for Internet Explorer.
The Notifier is only in effect when you use Google as your default search engine in Internet Explorer. If you intentionally change your search settings while the Notifier is enabled, a dialog box appears asking you to confirm the change. Once confirmed, the Search Settings Notifier no longer protects your search settings, unless you change your default search engine back to Google.
To enable or disable the Search Settings Notifier, follow these steps:
- Open Updater by going to the Start menu > Programs > Google Updater > Google Updater.
- In the Updater window, click the Preferences tab.
- In the 'Search' section, select or deselect the 'Set and keep Search settings to Google' checkbox. If you'd like to hide the system tray icon while keeping the feature enabled, deselect the 'Notify me on settings change' checkbox.
- Click Save Preferences.
