In order to expand propaganda of SKYBON Products, SK Chemicals held a seminar in Shanghai about SKYBON resins using for coil coatings. Hu Jingwei, chief editor of Paint & Finishing Consultation, interviewed Jiang Zhenxi, manager of SKYBON Department of SK Chemicals.
Hu: SK Chemicals is a new company in Chinese coating industry. Could you talk something about SK Chemicals?
Jiang: As one of the subsidiary company of the 3rd biggest group in Korea, SK Chemicals was founded in 1969 and it mainly provides chemical raw materials. Its business includes 5 aspects, petrochemical, resins, acetate, special chemicals and life science. The main products of petrochemical include PTA and DMT products. Resin department mainly produces polyester resins named SKYPET and is one of the global suppliers of Coca Cola Corporation. Acetate department is the unique acetate supplier in Korea. Special chemicals relate to electrochemical products, PU resins, high performance plastic resins, high molecule saturated polyester resins, etc. Life science is the developing field SK Chemicals aiming to. In 2002, the total sales value of SK Chemicals reached 650 million dollars.
Hu: What about the development of coil coatings and coating lines in Korea?
Jiang: The present coil coatings in Korea can be classified into 2 kinds, architectural coatings and coatings for household appliance, and coatings for household appliance take up 20%. The main coil coatings suppliers are KCC, DPI, SAMHWA and KUNSUL. There are about 20 coloured sheet coating lines in Korea, and their annual output is all about 100 tons. LG, Samsung and Daewoo have adopted coil sheets as main sheets and export to China.
Hu: What characteristics does SKYBON have?
Jiang: As the unique manufacturer of high molecule polyester resins in Korea, its SKYBON coil coatings for resins have their own characters. Especially the polyester resins whose molecule larger than 15 000 are suitable for high-grade coils. We are confident that these products will bring new idea and value to Chinese coil coatings manufacturers.
Hu: Could you please introduce the development of SK Chemicals in China and your plan?
Jiang: SK Chemicals has entered Chinese market for several years and has had 5 agents, respectively in Tianjin, Shanghai, Kunshan, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Last year, we sell 150 million yuan in China and it is predicted to grow at a speed of 60%. SK Chemicals is confident about Chinese coatings market and will develop with it together.
