Subscribe to Comments is a robust plugin that enables commenters to sign up for e-mail notification of subsequent entries. The plugin includes a full-featured subscription manager that your commenters can use to unsubscribe to certain posts, block all notifications, or even change their notification e-mail address!

Installation
- Put subscribe-to-comments.php into [wordpress_dir]/wp-content/plugins/
- Go into the WordPress admin interface and activate the plugin
- Optional: if your WordPress theme doesn’t have the comment_form hook, or if you would like to manually determine where in your comments form the subscribe checkbox appears, enter this where you would like it:
<?php show_subscription_checkbox(); ?> - Optional: If you would like to enable users to subscribe to comments without having to first leave a comment, place this somewhere in your template, but make sure it is outside the comments form. A good place would be right after the ending

Q. How can I tell if it’s working?
A.
- Log out of WordPress
- Leave a comment on an entry and check the comment subscription box, using an e-mail that is NOT the WP admin e-mail address or the e-mail address of the author of the post.
- Leave a second comment using a different e-mail address than the one you used in step 2 (it can be a bogus address).
- This should trigger a notification to the first address you used.
Q. I’d like the subscription checkbox to be checked by default. Can I do that?
A. Not anymore. But the checkbox status will be remembered on a per-user basis.
Q. My subscription checkbox shows up in a strange place. How do I fix it?
A. Try unchecking the CSS “clear” option. Beyond that, you’re on your own with CSS positioning.

I have found language files for this plugin but I don’t know how to use them
they are named:
subscribe-to-comments-pl_PL.mo
subscribe-to-comments-pl_PL.po
I put them in this plugin folder and it doesn’t work, I also put it in wp-content/languages but still nothing

I’d also love to see e-mails being sent via cron. Posting a new comment is starting to take quite a while on some of my posts with ~1000 comments.
I like the plugin, thanks … however, i have a few problems …
1. First, I get a W3C validation error …
Error Line 153, Column 95: Attribute “aria-required” is not a valid attribute

2. When i uncheck…

It doesn’t stay checked even after I Save Changes.

aria-required is a valid and recognized accessibility tag. Some things (such as accessibility) are more important than having a green bar show up when you validate your site.
I also would like to use the language files but failed to get them to work. Yes, I have read the documentation. I have post my question also in the wordpress forum, but no-one replied yet.
I had the plugin working on a popular commented site (3,000+ comments), but when a page had multiple pages of comments the plugin broke redirecting back to the correct page and comment (timed out).
So on the main posts comment page a new comment worked fine, but try to post a comment on say comment page 3 and the comment would post, but after the visitor went to a blank page (timed out).
Deactivating the plugin removed this issue.
I have a lot of customisations on this site, so maybe it’s this plugin interacting with something else.
If the plugin per se is broke I should get a time out when I send this comment

Is it possible to add an option to the plugin to have the check box automatically selected by default? I had to edit the files directly to make that option work, but if the plugin is every updated it reverts back to default settings and removes the change that I made.

I love you plugin, and I only have one problem with it:
When enabled, I receive “moderate comment”-mails even if comments do not need to be moderated. o_O
If you are replying to another commenter, click the “Reply to button under their comment to help the conversation have a better flow!

It is a great plugin, but when using WP 2.9.1 and upgrading this plugin from version 2.1 to 2.1.2 – the upgrade is OK, but the access to both pages of the plugin in the admin section is resutling an error of “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”
Do you have a fix for this?

Feature suggestion:
There are many members of a couple of my blogs who would like to be auto-subscribed to comments from ALL posts.
Although I use the “Subscribe to comments” plugin, it still requires them to remember to check off the “subscribe” box for each and every post. They find it annoying to have to remember and would like to be auto-subscribed.
Would it be difficult to add that feature? Regardless, I love your plug-in. Thx!

when there’s already a comment and I?m login it works fine, but when not login it doesn’t write the message.

The plug-in has a glitch.
I am unable to remove subscriptions.
I follow the procedure, checking the boxes of the posts someone is subscribed to, and nothing happens. The person remains subscribed to the post.
Have you fixed this glitch?
I am having this problem too. I had to go into the database and unsubscribe someone from tons of posts. Took me an hour.
Is there a fix coming to this otherwise fantastic plugin?

I found the “New Comment On:” line 606, but can’t seem to identify how the blog title is being inserted into the subject line of the email notification.

I am using Wordpress 2.9.1.
I ticked the ‘Do a CSS “clear” on the subscription checkbox/message (uncheck this if the checkbox/message appears in a strange location in your theme)’ to see what it would look like in my theme. It put the tick box on a different line to the text so I have unticked the box and saved. Only trouble is, it remains permanently ticked now! I have tried several times to untick it and save, refreshed the page and hey presto, still ticked!
So now my theme looks wrong, please could you fix this glitch and submit an update?

I just installed this plugin on my blog, but I want to notify every subscriber by a default email address(noreply@domain.com)
How to do it?
1. Open subscribe-to-comments.php
2. find the following line
$headers = “From: “{$site_name}” n”;
3. just replace {$site_email} with any email address you wish to use.
This comments box is not displaying the php line correctly, but hope u got the idea, its simple

I use this plugin on my site, and it works really well but I’ve noticed that the notification when a new comment is posted seems to display the email address and IP address of the commenter. I’d like to protect people’s privacy – is it possible to hide these details from notfications?

There are a bunch of us who would like to add a checkbox to allow people to ALSO subscribe to ALL subsequent posts on the blog — not just comments to the particular single post.
This seems to be possible and working in wp.COM but not wp.ORG ??
I have the plugin working, thank you. But the text is crammed into the field provided, and the word “followup” is showing up below the box. (“Notify me of” shows up inside the box, and “followup” shows up outside and below.)
Any way I can increase the size of the text box or decrease the size of the font? Better to increase the size of the text box. But will that move the checkbox over to the right?

Apparently, your plugin ruined my blog. I installed it, the checkbox appeared OK. Logged out of site, tried to leave and subscribe to comment, comment did not post.
Deactivated plugin, tried to leave comment, did not work. Now, no comments can be left on my blog!

I have a tricky question (so it’s not even an issue) : I’m trying to build a multilingual website. Currently, My whole website is switching from a language to another, mostly thanks to the Localization process.
Actually, Subscribe to comments doesn’t switch. I can have it in English or translate it in another language,that’s fine, but I would also see it go from one language to another depending on the localization (I reckon in using the plugin_text_domain)
Is it possible?
Any help or ideas?
