Traffic, congestion and transportation woes have made the GTA a worse place to live in the past five years, according to a nationwide poll released Tuesday.
The poll on quality of life in the city, done by the Trudeau Foundation, found that when people were asked how their city has become worse in recent years, nearly a third cited transportation and roads as the biggest headache.
And many of them, 23 per cent, consider it among the most pressing problems facing their city today.
Transportation beat out crime, cost of living and lack of social services to take the top spot, according to 210 people polled in the GTA.
"Toronto is higher than the average and that reflects the fact that it is a big city," said Keith Neuman, who works in public affairs for Environics Research Group, which conducted the poll.
"And the concern is more about congestion and traffic than transportation issues," he said.
The sentiments come at a time when the GTA is reeling from further bad news on the transportation front that the TTC is raising fares and that tolls might be one solution to deal with the increasing congestion.
Last week, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development released a report stating traffic costs the GTA more than $2 billion in lost productivity.
