Update No. 3 (11 a.m. PST): Sorry, folks, looks like the deal is definitely dead this time.

Update No. 2: Working again! Make sure you follow step 5 and add Bluetooth, otherwise you won't get the color choices.

Update: Sigh. I knew this wouldn't last. Looks like Lenovo has already taken it down (or at least removed the custom-color options necessary to drop the price). My apologies. Deals are so ephemeral right now.

Best Netbook deal of the year, right here, right now. I have no idea how long it will last, so let's get to it.

Lenovo has a 10-inch IdeaPad S10-2 Netbook for $208.70 shipped. The specs are pretty standard, including a 160GB hard drive, Bluetooth, and Windows XP Home. And it's new, not a refurb!

There's a little hoop-jumping here, so stay with me:

1. Head to the Lenovo Family and Friends page.

2. Enter passcode familyandfriends and click Sign In.

3. Wait for the red Holiday Gift Ideas banner to appear, click it, and then click it again on the subsequent page.

4. Click the Netbooks tab, then click Customize & Buy on the IdeaPad S10-2 at the far left.

5. Scroll down and add Bluetooth. Then choose one of the five designer color options (Flower Sea is pictured here). Alas, there's no preview, but they're all pretty gorgeous.

6. Click Continue a couple times and then add the S10 to your cart. Finally, apply coupon code USP12NETBOOK for a final price of $208.70.

Awesome. Just plain awesome. Gotta give shout-out credit to Dealnews for this deal, which should tickle those who've been waiting for a Netbook.

I don't even need a Netbook, and I'm this close to grabbing one anyway. How about you?

The following product mentioned is available.

there is a slight glitch right now.... if you upgrade to the free window 7 option the price changes from 200 to $113,000!!! I called the customer support and they are working the issue now.... I am going to wait for windows 7!

Ha! That is one expensive OS! I just tried it myself--same result. Didn't even realize Windows 7 was an option. Hope they fix it!
by tipoo_ November 20, 2009 10:53 AM PST
Its worth it.

NAAT!

What you fail to realize is that you'll be saving $47,325.16 by choosing Windows 7. How can you say no to that?!?
by rrdody November 20, 2009 1:07 PM PST
$113,119.99, but at least you saved $47,334.01!
by danewiren November 20, 2009 2:26 PM PST
Yeah, but you save over $47,000 off the original price & an extra $31 with the discount coupon. How annoying! I really like Win7 & this was a make or break deal. When I called they said their IT dept. jacked up the price ridiculously high so no one would order it. I bet that won't stop some people. Maybe they can get a government contract...

Bought a decent netbook from Costco a few months ago. Found it sitting on my dresser collecting dust in less than two weeks.

Actually, this comes with a 3-cell battery. That's my only real disappointment, though for the price, I'd hardly expect otherwise.
by November 20, 2009 8:13 AM PST
I think this is a 3-cell battery...

I also just received the $113,000 for Windows 7 OS. I am waiting to see what happens.

Any idea which one is which? For example, is the green one "nature"?
by tsohl November 20, 2009 8:19 AM PST
I can't get the custom lid...which is what reduces the price. is this deal gone already?

I can't either, is that why it tells me "Coupon not valid for current shopping cart." at checkout?
by rightbrain88 November 20, 2009 8:26 AM PST
I just went through it and it worked fine. You don't get the custom lid offered until you add bluetooth.
by twodub November 20, 2009 8:33 AM PST
The Custom lid options only appears after you select the Bluetooth option.
by tsohl November 20, 2009 8:46 AM PST
Now it works! I had sleected everything properyl before (including bluetooth) and it didn't.
by d_e_fresh November 20, 2009 9:07 AM PST
I've tried 10 times in FF and IE and not getting the lid option... oh well, guess it just wasn't meant to be.
by PatrikTX November 20, 2009 8:24 AM PST
I followed what you said and come up with 300.35 out the door

Same result for me.
by d_e_fresh November 20, 2009 8:24 AM PST
No Win 7 option for me either.

I'm also unable to select a custom lid, rendering the coupon code useless...

Just tried it and it's working now--$208.70 (but without the Win 7 election--that still gets you up to $113,000 ...).

Too bad I don't really like the personalized lids--they'd drive me crazy, along with a white-colored laptop.

The color choices seem to be appearing and disappearing at random. Grrr...
by ripstruct8 November 20, 2009 8:40 AM PST
i got the discount to work in my cart, as of 11:40 eastern time, but I didn't buy it because i need at least a 6 cell battery and Windows 7......great deal, although I think its worth the extra $100 bucks for those two things

Gotta make sure to add Bluetooth first. And for whatever reason, sometimes the first "add" doesn't take. Try a second time.

Are the options for lid choice supposed to change after you add bluetooth? Also, I've noticed on my customization page, the battery is listed as 6-cell. I've added and removed bluetooth multiple times now and it still won't allow me any further customization options...
by meemeeseeku November 20, 2009 8:55 AM PST
Well, I figured it out, and I can't read directions. I misread your instructions and clicked the leftmost netbook on the Holiday Gifts page, not the leftmost netbook under the "Netbook" tab.

"Well, I figured it out, and I can't read directions. I misread your instructions and clicked the leftmost netbook on the Holiday Gifts page, not the leftmost netbook under the "Netbook" tab."

HAHAHA, that was my problem as well... I'm an idiot.

got it to show $209.00 using XP, Blue Tooth and one the popart lid. Now, during checkout, it refuses to accept the Billing and Shipping page submission, stating:

"Our Systems are experiencing heavy volumes. Please resubmit the order after a short time."

Won't take it now, for at least 20 minutes of hittting the submit button, just returns the notice.

OK Rick - ran through all the hoops. Don't need a glorified PDA, but the price did end at $208.70 - niiiiice catch!

The 411 on early-termination fees

Verizon Wireless has doubled its early-termination fees for smartphones, but what does it mean for the rest of the industry?

Google has its own plan for Netbooks

No, the search giant isn't saying it will build a Netbook. But it sure knows what it would like one running Chrome OS to resemble, and that's a little different from the Netbook of today.
