David Trezeguet strengthened Juventus’ position in the tie after just two minutes at Craven Cottage, firing home with a left footed strike. On fifteen minutes Bobby Zamora chested down a Konchesky cross and equalised to give Fulham some hope. The sending off of Fabio Cannavaro gave Fulham more hope and a goal just before half time from Zoltan Gera put Fulham in with a great chance. Within minutes of the second half Fulham brought the tie all square to 4-4 on aggregate, Zoltan Gera scoring from the penalty spot. Eight minutes from time the tie was won by Clint Dempsey with a fantastic chip into the far corner to send Fulham into the quarters.

Steven Gerrard scored from the penalty spot after eight minutes to level it all up on aggregate with Lille after Lucas had been felled in the box. Fernando Torres doubled the lead showing his clinical finishing ability following a direct ball. Fernando Torres made it three late on following a parried Gerrard effort.

Jerome Boateng hit a long range effort for Hamburg to open the scoring at Anderlecht four minutes before the break. Two minutes later Romelu Lukaku, the 16-year-old having a brilliant season equalised on the night with a close range header. Anderlecht then went 2-1 up before half-time thanks to a Matias Suarez penalty. First half goals here. Marcell Jansen equalised for Hamburg only for Lucas Biglia to put the home side in front early in the second period - Jansen & Biglia goals on this video. Anderlecht moved level on goals in the tie when Lukaku set up Moubarak Boussoufa to score with a tidy flick. Mladen Petric completed Hamburg’s win on 75.

David Villa scored yet again after just three minutes at Werder Bremen and Juan Mata doubled Valencia’s lead (to make it 3-1 on aggregate) following an excellent through ball from Silva. Hugo Almeida tapped home on 26 minutes to give the home side some hope. On the stroke of half-time David Villa killed off the tie with another finish that gave Wiese no chance. Bremen though put an admirable fight back together, two goals in five minutes from Torsten Frings (penalty) and Marko Marin levelled things up again only for David Villa to complete his hat-trick with a goal that makes you shudder to think at the talent at the disposal of the Spanish this summer. Claudio Pizarro made it 4-4 to cap an incredible second leg with eight minutes to go.

Stuttgart’s 1-all draw from the first leg was undone after 13 minutes at the Nou Camp, Lionel Messi took on the stand-offish Stuttgart defence and the Argentine continued his amazing goalscoring form by lashing a stunning drive into the top corner from 20 yards out. The Germans fell 2-behind to see their Champions League almost ended after 22 minutes when Toure and Messi combined to tee up Pedro Rodriguez for a simple tap in. On the hour the Catalans bagged a fantastic third to kill the tie dead, Barca strung together several one-touch passes before the ball eventually being shuttled across to Leo Messi by Alves and, after a brilliant spin, he walloped a low shot into the bottom right in one smooth movement. Barca closed the match with a fourth when Bojan Krkic raced onto Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s sublime through-ball to slot past keeper Jens Lehmann from the edge of the box.

Having won the first leg 1-nil in Greece, Yoann Gourcuff put Bordeaux in complete control of their tie with Olympiakos converting a sweet free-kick into the top corner after five minutes. The Greeks gave themselves a lifeline just after the hour, Konstantinos Mitroglou picked up a throw from the left and rifled an unstoppable effort into the top corner. Bordeaux secured their place in the quarters two minutes from time when Benoit Tremoulinas whipped in a wicked cross to the back post and reported future Gunner Marouane Chamakh rose high to thump home a cracking header.

Video 16/03/2010: NBA Highlights of the day

Trailing 2-1 from their trip to the San Siro, Chelsea failed to make the breakthrough against Inter in the first half at Stamford Bridge. Inter came out on fire after the break with the visitors repeatedly threatening the Blues’ goal, and in the 78th minute they go their just deserves when Samuel Eto’o collected a wonderful pass through the middle and, after taking just one touch, he rifled a shot past Turbull. A terrible night for the Pensioners was compounded when Didier Drogba saw a straight red after being involved in a tussle with Thiago Motta.

Mourinho sorprende un Chelsea opaco prima schierando una formazione super-offensiva poi però con una condotta tattica accorta, fatta di pressing e organizzazione. Qualche rischio solo a fine primo tempo, con occasioni per gli uomini di Ancelotti e un paio di episodi a rischio rigore. Poi la grande ripresa e il gol capolavoro di Eto’o.
