Women power does wonders
KUALA LUMPUR: Women leaders should go down to the ground to hear of the people’s needs for themselves, the Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said.
“God has given us women capabilities and advantages such as being more sensitive and rational and we can work together with the men to achieve the 1Malaysia concept.
“Going to the ground shows the people that they are not only being prioritised but also being taken care of,” she said at a meet-the-people programme in Taman Wahyu yesterday.
One with the people: Rosmah greeting residents of Taman Wahyu during the meetthe- people programme with, among others, Tee Keat and Shahrizat.Rosmah said that programmes like this needed to be held often to ensure the welfare and development of the people.
“We need to walk the talk. Programmes that benefit the people need to be held often to show the spirit of ‘People First.’”
Noting that the younger generation were an important asset, she said such programmes allowed leaders to get closer to them.
“When they are closer to the leaders, they will also accept our leadership.
“But if we stay away from them, they will also stay away from us,” she said.
Rosmah called on women and women leaders to help the young ones in their development because the future of the country depended on them.
She also urged the people to accept the differences among the people and use them (the differences) as a platform to achieve all national objectives and vision.
Among those present were Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil; Transport Minister and MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat; Datin Nafesah Raja Nong Chik, the wife of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin; Federal Territory Wanita Umno chief Senator Datuk Azizah Abd Samad and Batu Umno chief Datuk Yahya Mat Ghani.
