Meat & Wool NZ appoints new CEO
Wednesday, 03 September 2008Meat & Wool New Zealand's new chief executive is its current general manager of market access and services Scott Champion.
Chairman Mike Petersen said Dr Champion had led the development of Meat & Wool's beef and sheepmeat marketing programmes.
He had also led the market access work that contributed to improved access for meat and wool products through the China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) plus the recently announced Asean-Australia-New Zealand FTA.
That was alongside the range of technical issues work that helped protect trade in beef and sheepmeat, and the wool industry, Mr Petersen said.
Dr Champion's work had included leading a re-focusing of North Asia beef programmes which now clearly differentiated New Zealand grass-fed beef.
He helped facilitate the growth of commercial industry investment through new joint venture programmes for lamb in North America and beef in North Asia.
Dr Champion said it was pleasing to see stronger prices feeding back to farmers. That window had to be used to generate better long term returns for sheep and beef farmers.
